Third Coast AI vs Profound: an AEO consultancy or an AI visibility platform?
Last updated October 14, 2026. Written by the Third Coast AI team.
Profound is software: its own site describes an AI platform that tracks how answer engines mention and cite a brand across up to nine engines, with agents that draft and stage content, sold on a free seven-day trial and an enterprise plan with custom pricing, while Third Coast AI is a consultancy in Holland, Michigan, that uses Profound as one of its tracking tools and does the human work a platform does not: writing the prompt bank the way buyers ask, capturing the hidden sub-queries, reading the cited pages, auditing a client's pages for proof and writing the briefs. The two are not substitutes, and the honest answer for most companies is a tool for the baseline and a person for the plan.
Everything below about Profound comes from Profound's homepage and pricing page, checked October 2026. We are a Profound user, which you should weigh when reading this, and we have no commercial relationship with them beyond that.
Who is Profound, as described on its own site?
Profound's homepage calls the product the AI platform to power your marketing and describes an AI Marketer that identifies work worth doing, drafts content and stages it for approval (checked October 2026). It names ChatGPT, Perplexity, Claude, Gemini, Microsoft Copilot, DeepSeek and Google AI Overviews as covered engines, lists modules including Answer Engine Insights, Prompt Volumes, Shopping, Agent Analytics, Context Manager, a FactCheck agent, a Thought Leader agent, Command Center, benchmarking and sentiment analysis, and publishes research including an AEO Report and the Profound Index. It says the platform serves AEO teams, content teams, PR and brand teams and agencies, and states it is trusted by a third of the Fortune 100. No office location appears on the pages we checked.
Profound's pricing page lists two plans, checked October 2026:
- A free trial with limited AI Marketer credits, 50 unique prompts a day for 7 days across three engines (ChatGPT, Gemini and Google AI Overviews), unlimited seats, and no historical data, exports or API access.
- An enterprise plan at custom pricing through a sales demo, with custom prompt frequency across 9 supported engines (ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Copilot, DeepSeek, Google AI Overviews, Exa Search and Google AI Mode), credits for the whole team, full historical data, CSV and JSON exports, API access, SSO and SOC 2.
No dollar figures appear on the pricing page, which is consistent with how our pricing guide describes Profound as enterprise-priced.
Which buyer does each fit?
| Third Coast AI | Profound | |
|---|---|---|
| Location | Holland, Michigan. In-person work in West Michigan (Grand Rapids, Holland, Kalamazoo, Muskegon and the lakeshore), remote work with companies anywhere in the US. | Not stated on the pages we checked. |
| Focus | AEO and GEO only: getting a company named and cited by ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot. No SEO programs, no paid media, no software. | Software platform for AI visibility: prompt tracking across up to 9 engines, citations, sentiment, prompt volumes, benchmarking, and agents that draft and stage content. |
| Who it fits | Owners, CEOs and marketing directors of $5M to $100M companies who want someone to measure, read and write; agencies that want the method under their name. | AEO, content, PR and brand teams and agencies that want continuous tracking and workflow tooling, with the homepage pointing at large enterprises. |
| How you buy | A three-week fixed-fee audit, quoted after a short scoping call, then optional monthly content and entity programs on a six-month initial term, month to month after that. The audit fee is credited against the first month of a program. | Free 7-day trial, then an enterprise plan with custom pricing through a sales demo, per the pricing page. |
| How results are measured | Prompt-level change across repeated runs on each engine: whether you are named, where, how you are described and which pages are cited, with the misses reported alongside the wins. | Visibility, citations, sentiment and prompt volumes reported in the platform, with historical data and exports on the enterprise plan. |
Can a platform replace the consultancy, or the other way round?
Neither, in our experience, and we say that as a paying user. A platform re-runs prompts on a schedule, which is work no person should do by hand, and Profound's enterprise plan tracks more engines than we run manually. What a platform does not do is write the prompt bank from a buyer's point of view rather than from a keyword list, capture the hidden sub-queries behind each question (our captures show 10 to 20 behind a typical buyer question, consistent with what Google has described about AI Mode), read the cited pages for their shape, or check your site page by page against the decision factors, and those are the steps that produce the sentence that changes an answer. Equally, a consultancy without continuous tracking is guessing between re-runs, which is why we run PromptWatch and Profound alongside our own miner. The agency versus tool page goes through the division of labor, and the tools comparison puts Profound next to the alternatives.
How much should a $5M to $100M company spend on software?
Less than on the reading, usually. Profound's trial is free and its enterprise plan is custom-priced, and other tools publish lower tiers (OtterlyAI lists plans from about $29 to $489 a month (checked October 2026)), so a tracking baseline is affordable at almost any size, and Bing Webmaster Tools provides a free AI Performance report for Copilot and Bing. The evidence on what moves answers argues for putting the larger share of budget into pages and the third-party record: Aggarwal and colleagues at Princeton measured quotations, statistics and cited sources lifting visibility in generated answers by about 41%, 33% and 28%, and Ahrefs' 75,000-brand study found third-party mentions correlate with AI citations at 0.664 against 0.218 for backlinks. A dashboard reports those effects; it does not create them.
We use Profound and we would tell any client to start a trial. The platform tells you the score. The audit tells you why, and the why is a sentence on a specific page that nobody has written yet.

When would we send you to Profound alone?
When you have an in-house team that already writes well, knows its buyers' questions and wants continuous tracking across many engines with exports and an API, because then the platform plus your own people may be the whole answer. We would suggest adding us when nobody on your team has time to write the prompt bank, read the cited pages or audit your site for proof, or when you want the method set up once and handed over through a three-week audit. Running a platform and the reading together is what we do ourselves.
