Third Coast AI vs Mindscape: an AEO specialist or a full-service Grand Rapids agency?

Last updated October 14, 2026. Written by the Third Coast AI team.

Mindscape is a full-service digital marketing agency in Grand Rapids, Michigan, whose own site lists HubSpot implementation, website design and development, marketing automation, paid advertising, email marketing and a service called SEO + AI Optimization with programs starting at $500, while Third Coast AI is an AEO and GEO consultancy in Holland, Michigan, that does only the work of getting a company named and cited by ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews and AI Mode, Gemini, Perplexity and Copilot. Both can be good choices for a West Michigan company; the difference is a local agency that can build and run most of your marketing against a specialist that measures and fixes one thing.

Everything below about Mindscape comes from Mindscape's homepage, services page, SEO and AI optimization page and about page, checked October 2026. We have no relationship with them and make no claims about their results.

Who is Mindscape, as described on its own site?

Mindscape's homepage identifies the company as a digital marketing agency in Grand Rapids, Michigan, and lists website design and development, SEO + AI Optimization, marketing automation, website maintenance, paid advertising, training, email marketing and HubSpot support, along with HubSpot's Marketing, Sales, Service, CMS and Operations hubs and WooCommerce and Shopify development (checked October 2026). The industries it names are manufacturing, education, banking, nonprofit, professional services, retail and consumer, healthcare, furniture, franchise and multi-location, software, and suppliers and distributors. Mindscape's about page says the company has more than two decades of experience and does not state a founding year or team size on the page we checked.

Mindscape's services page lists seventeen services, checked October 2026, and the ones most relevant to this comparison are:

Mindscape's SEO and AI optimization page describes technical SEO, on-page optimization, content strategy and keyword research, refers to AI-powered platforms and AI-driven answers without naming specific engines, describes outcomes as higher rankings for targeted keywords, increases in qualified organic traffic and more conversions, and states that SEO + AI Optimization programs start at $500. The pages we checked do not use the terms AEO or GEO.

How results are measuredPrompt-level change across repeated runs on each engine: whether you are named, where, how you are described and which pages are cited, with the misses reported alongside the wins.Keyword rankings, qualified organic traffic and conversions, per the SEO and AI optimization page.

Is ranking the same thing as being named by an AI engine?

No, and this is the real difference between the two services rather than a difference in quality. Mindscape's SEO page measures success as rankings, organic traffic and conversions, which is the correct measure for SEO, and SEO health remains the foundation that AI visibility is built on. What has changed is that the engines build a different list: Ahrefs measured the overlap between Google's top ten and AI Overview citations at 38% in March 2026, down from 76% eight months earlier, and Tom Capper at Moz measured 88% of AI Mode citations as pages that were not in the organic results for the same query. Our measure is whether you are named and cited when a buyer asks, by engine, over repeated runs, which the definitions page sets beside SEO in a table. A Grand Rapids company can reasonably want both measures, from one vendor or two.

Does a local company need a specialist at all?

Often the local agency is enough, and we would rather say that than oversell. If your site needs rebuilding, your CRM needs setting up and your paid campaigns need running, a full-service agency in your own city is the sensible call, and SEO work done well will help the engines read you. The case for adding a specialist is specific: prompts with a town in them split into local hidden sub-queries, the sources the engines cite for a West Michigan question are a short list, and the decision factors the engines use (licensing, response time, years in business, pricing transparency) are rarely stated plainly on local sites, which is what the West Michigan page and the Grand Rapids page go into. BrightEdge's tracking puts AI Overviews on nearly half of Google queries, and Pew measured click-through falling from 15% to 8% when a summary is present, so the question for a local owner is how many of their buyers now get an answer before they ever see a ranking.

Grand Rapids has good full-service agencies, and we are not one of them. We are the people you call when you want to know, with evidence, which companies ChatGPT names for your category and what to change so that it names you.

When would we send you to Mindscape instead?

When you need a website built or maintained, HubSpot implemented, paid advertising run or email marketing managed, because we do none of those and Mindscape lists all of them. We would keep you, or work alongside your local agency through our white-label option, when the question is specifically who the AI engines name and why, when you want it measured through a three-week audit with the readout in person, and when you want the prompt bank and the plan handed over at the end. The Michigan page describes how regional prompts behave across the state.
